Chainels donated 2500 euro to Stichting Homeplan and the donation funded the construction of a home for a family in need in South Africa. Stichting HomePlan is an organisation which believes every person deserves a safe shelter and future. By building homes for families in need, the Netherlands-based organisation offers dignity and safety.
HomePlan and local partner organisations selected a family: a 44 year old single mother of six boys and one girl. She is currently unemployed and relies on a child support grant to put food on the table. Built a long time ago by the mother’s late mother and father, the family’s house was old and could collapse at any given moment, especially during wind or storm events. The mother’s financial situation was not stable and therefore she could not afford to buy construction materials or pay a builder to build a new home.
The decision to build a new house for the family was made by HomePlan in collaboration with local partner Duduza. After the recruitment of local builder, all building materials were bought and then the building process commenced. Within three weeks, the house was finished. Stichting HomePlan and local organisations handed over the keys to the family, a very emotional moment.
In the coming period, local leadership will remain involved in the family’s situation and will consider the mother in local municipal projects to result to employment. This will ensure she acquires a temporary job and earn something that will contribute to her financial situation. Local entrepreneurs and businesses will also assist by donating items such as beds, food and clothing.
